ORIGAMI SEED POCKET CONTAINS 30 SEEDS

Zapotec or Zapoteca, is a really neat pleated, red to pinkish colored tomato from Mexico. It has an incredible rich “red tomato” flavor that should make any cook swoon. These fruits are meaty with a fairly low moisture content, so they are great for less watery salsa and canning and processing, but also so damn tasty that they make a great munching, sandwich and salad tomato.

The downside? While they are an excellent multipurpose canning, salsa, slicing, salad, munching tomato, they are slow to peel because of the pleats. Not horribly slow, but when you’re canning 100 pounds of tomatoes on a hot august afternoon, these things sometimes matter. Otherwise, it’s the best multipurpose tomato I’ve come across. Another tomato in my top five. A year without Zapotec….well, no thanks.
